The Bee Line (2005–present)

The newsletter of the Oregon State Beekeepers Association, The Bee Line, is published in ten issues per year. I have served as editor since late 2005, work that involves searching for, soliciting, and tracking articles and reports, setting up advertising, editing submissions, scanning images and doing the layout, and managing mailing of print versions to the membership. Although my intention is to remain in the background, I occasionally do interviews and write articles as well.

Because of my relatively long-term involvement in the organization, I have also worked in other capacities—such as updating the long out-dated constitution and bylaws of the organization. Because decisions that had been made and voted on over time either had not added or were not well incorporated in the then-existing documents, they contained contradictory, misleading, and incorrect information. (In short, they were a tough read for anyone with tendencies to edit, and I’m still grateful to Jan Lohman, then president, for facilitating the process so we got it done!) In addition, I collected past issues of the newsletter from individual members to create a record for the organization. I then sorted through issues available in the library holdings at Oregon State University and copied all issues that were in the library holdings but missing from the OSBA record. Similarly, I provided copies of all issues that were in the OSBA record but not in the library holdings to the serials librarian. Both OSBA and the OSU library now have files that are as complete and up to date as possible. Even so, more past issues are known to exist. If anyone knows of them, I would very much like to hear from you!
